Swimming: 53rd German Masters Championships

The competition day for the total of 606 athletes in the age groups 20 to 90 from 202 clubs started in the Hofwiesenbad in Gera already at 7:30 am. For the FVV Martina (age group/AK35) and Peter (AK 55) started. For Martina the competition was the last test before the European Championships. Support on site was provided by our coach Silke.

The competition program “short distances” included the races over 50 and 100 meters of all four swimming styles, also 200 meters medley and freestyle. Relays, which were not offered last year due to corona, were also part of the event again this year. The spectators were offered beautiful, exciting races, some European records and German records were set. Among others, Gisela Gruner improved the German record in age group 85 by a clear 12 seconds to 0:55.94 min.

The current energy crisis was also a topic of discussion: The German Swimming Association (DSV) pointed out in its welcome address the urgency to maintain swimming operations and will continue to do so in times of crisis. The association also sees itself supported in this by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). This commitment was well received by the masters swimmers.
