Frankfurt Bids to Host the EuroGames 2028

The City of Frankfurt is aiming to host the EuroGames 2028 – Europe’s largest queer multi-sport event. Together with FVV and the women’s and lesbian sports club Artemis, Mayor Mike Josef has submitted a formal letter of intent to the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF). A decision on the host city is expected in October 2025.

Under the joint leadership of the City’s Sports Department and FVV, a comprehensive event concept is currently being developed. The plan includes competitions in around 20 sports over four days, with more than 4,000 participants expected from across Europe. Many elements – from the opening ceremony to workshops and community activities – are set to take place in public spaces to ensure broad participation throughout the city.

Mayor Mike Josef emphasizes: “The EuroGames 2028 are meant to send a strong message for diversity, democracy, and queer visibility – in sports venues, public spaces, and beyond.”

FVV also sees the bid as a clear commitment to an open and inclusive society. Under the motto “Sport, Democracy and Freedom – United in the Heart of Europe,” Frankfurt hopes to once again host a vibrant and welcoming sports festival – 33 years after the EuroGames 1995.

The official bid book will be submitted by 30 September 2025.
