We make “sport” in general the sport of the month and have taken a closer look at what sport can do for us, what such a “club life” is good for and what the FVV offers everything. We held a detailed interview with Lea Nagel, Medical Doctor, GYROTONIC© therapist and FVV member:
The FVV has a huge range of sports, after all. Asked in general terms, what influence does sport have on a person’s health and well-being?
Many studies have proven the benefits of exercise on health. Exercise is one of the most important factors in bringing body, psyche and soul into harmony.
Is there a special tip for those interested in starting at FVV?
The most important thing is to find the fun in exercise. I recommend trying out different types of sports to find one that gives you pleasure and at the same time increases your individual physical well-being.
Which type of sport is particularly helpful for which ailments?
Endurance sports and yoga help with cardiovascular complaints. For back pain, it is important to exercise the muscles through balance exercises. For mild depression, any kind of exercise helps. It is important to listen to the body and acknowledge its limits.
Fitness or swimming provide endurance, flexibility, strength – but can’t dancing and bowling also increase my well-being, improve my attitude to life?
That’s absolutely right. Every movement counts! Dancing, for example, is very good for body image. My advice is to do the sport you enjoy and do it regularly.
Is the health effect of my sporting effort measurable?
Studies have shown that regular exercise has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, the immune system, as well as the musculoskeletal system and brain performance. It also improves mental health.
The FVV started with volleyball. Was it a coincidence that it was a team sport, or does playing together also play a role in health?
Playing sports together as a team motivates you to keep at it and is good for your social health.
And yourself? What sport did you personally choose?
I am in the synchronized swimming team of the FVV and do GYROTONIC©.
