40 years of FVV: Kick-off event for the Queer Sport Campaign Year

(MK/PIA) Founded in 1985 as a sports club to offer queer people a safe and non-discriminatory space, we are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year with the “Queer Sport Year of Action”.

The city welcomed us to the Imperial Hall of the town hall to kick off the year of activities with its numerous projects. Mayor Mike Josef welcomed over 200 guests: “The FVV is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. During this time, the association has grown into one of the largest queer sports clubs in Germany. With currently almost 1,000 members and more than 25 sports, it makes a decisive contribution to making Frankfurt a liberal and cosmopolitan city and offers people a sporting home regardless of their origin, gender or sexual orientation.”

Over the course of the year, a documentation of the club’s history, the establishment of a foundation and a major survey on the acceptance of queer members in traditional sports clubs will follow. A big community party is of course also planned for April.
