From December 8 to 10, Frankfurt was once again the heart of queer sports events in Europe for a weekend with the FVV XMAS multisport tournament. The athletes traveled from over 24 countries to do sport, have fun, exchange ideas, meet old friends and make new ones. With well over 1,200 participants and the seven sports of Badminton, RainbowRun, Swimming, Competitive Shooting, Squash, Equality Dancing and Volleyball, it was also one of the largest in the club’s history. Many photos and results are already online, with more to come.
The check-in on Friday evening was already a great success. At times, several hundred athletes attended the exuberant come-together at the same time, received the latest information about the competitions and used the relaxed atmosphere to network. The competitions on Saturday were all well attended and excellently organized. We set all-time visitor records at the RainbowRun and Squash. The big XMAS party was exuberant and lasted until the early hours of the morning. At the final brunch, this year’s guest speaker, Mayor Eskandari-Grünberg, addressed warm and moving words to the participants.
We are very happy that we also received strong support from business and society. Mainova was once again there as a sponsor. A big thank you also goes to the Sportkreis Frankfurt for its support, the Office for Multicultural Affairs, the Sports Offices, the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, hohes C and the TuS Makkabi. And most importantly: Over 200 members took part as volunteers and made this event a weekend full of commitment, charm, togetherness and warmth.
