EuroGames Lyon 2025 – A Vibrant Festival of Sport and Diversity

From July 23–26, Lyon became the vibrant heart of queer sport in Europe. Over 5,000 athletes from across the continent competed in more than 40 disciplines—from swimming and volleyball to inclusive events like drag wrestling and parasport.

FVV joined with around 60 members, competing in various sports and proudly representing openness and solidarity. Beyond the competitions, the EuroGames offered a rich cultural program with concerts, exhibitions, workshops, and parties—a true celebration for the community and its allies.

A highlight was the accompanying conference, where topics like inclusion in sports, LGBTIQ* rights, accessibility, and diversity were discussed with support from the City of Lyon and civil society organizations.

Security was tight: entry to all venues required personal accreditation wristbands, collected in advance at City Hall. While ensuring safety, these measures limited spontaneous participation and accessibility for non-accredited visitors.

A delegation from Frankfurt, including representatives from the Sports Department and FVV, promoted the city’s bid for the EuroGames 2028—emphasizing Frankfurt’s strong infrastructure, proven experience with major events, and its clear commitment to queer visibility and inclusion in sports.
