Football (Soccer)
When?
Tuesday, 8:30 – 10:00 p.m. During the summer school vacations, though, training is held outdoor, every second Tuesday at the VFR Bockenheim from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. No training is held on holidays and during school vacations. During the summer school vacations we train at the VFR Bockenheim, Ginnheimer Landstraße.
Where?
Sporthalle of the Goethe-Gymnasium (upper gym), Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage 24 in Frankfurt. Take the subway or S-Bahn to the main train station, then the 16 or 17 tram to the stop "Hohenstaufenstraße." During the summer school vacations: the field of the VFR Bockenheim, located 150 meters by foot from the parking lot of the "Bezirkssportanlage West" (beside the University Sports Center) on the Ginnheimer Landstraße. Take the subway line U1, U2 or U3 and exit at the station "Dornbusch," or the subway line U6 or U7 and exit at the station "Kirchplatz"--from there take the #34 bus and exit at the stop "Universitätssportanlagen." Must I attend training regularly?
Yes, you really should, as it is a team sport and the team must train together to be prepared for tournaments.
Who may attend?
Anyone who can run and knows that the ball is round is welcome to join us. Regular attendance is really important, so that we can build 2-3 teams with four players each that then play against one another. Click HERE to view a video that shows our inside training.
Previous experience is not required. Beginners and advanced players play together.
What must I bring?
Training clothes, shorts (or long sweat pants) and gym shoes. We'll teach you team spirit and ensure that you are integrated into the team. Fear not!
Training format
10 minutes of warm-up: running and stretching. Then we build 2-3 teams that then play against each other. We also do other exercises to ensure that everyone has a good time and does not get bored. Training goal: to develop a solid team that plays well together and where each player is supportive of the others .
Does it cost me any more than the basic FVV membership fee?
No. Of course, tournament participation fees are extra, as well as transportation, food and lodging costs.
Does the group also participate in tournaments and workshops?
Yes, for example, we travel to Berlin, Hamburg, Karlsruhe and Cologne... and also to Barcelona, Paris, Prague, and to the Eurogames. We have not yet played in either the Gay League nor in any non-gay leagues. The gay football (soccer) teams from Munich and Cologne do do this--but these teams train much more professionally. If there is enough interest, we can organize games in the Rhein-Main area against other teams who play for fun as we do.
