Rowing

When?

Rowing is divided into a Winter Schedule and a Summer Schedule.
Since the boats we use have no lights, we can only row during the day.

In cooperation with Frauenruderverein Freiweg the following training dates
are possible:

Summer Schedule (April – October)

Tuesday, 6:15 p.m.  Speed rowing – open only to advanced rowers

Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.  Open rowing – open to everyone (Techniques)

Thursday, 6:30 p.m.  Open rowing – open to everyone
Saturday, 2:00 p.m.  Open rowing – open to everyone
Sunday, 10:30 a.m.  Open rowing – open to everyone

Winter Schedule (November – March)

Monday, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.  Inside training (school gym, not on vacation period)
Saturday, 11:30 a.m.  Speed rowing – open only to advanced rowers
Saturday, 2:00 p.m.  Open rowing – open to everyone
Sunday, 11:00 a.m.  Open rowing – open to everyone
Sunday, 1:30 p.m.  Speed rowing – open only to advanced rowers

Impromptu rowing sessions are announced via E-mail.  Telephone coordination with the division head is important, as rowing is not an individual sport and we need a certain number of rowers to train.

Where?

Rowing (Summer Schedule):  Frauenruderverein Freiweg e.V.
Mainfeldstraße 35, 60528 Frankfurt (Niederrad)

Inside training (Winter Schedule)Sporthalle der Friedrich-Fröbel-Schule, Else-Alken-Str. 3, 60528 Frankfurt-Niederrad

Must I attend training regularly?

No.  However, regular participation is advantageous for both you and the group.  Since successful rowing is based on good technique, we recommend that you come at least once a week.

Who may attend?

Anyone who likes a sportive challenge and enjoys participating in a team sport.  The requirement is that you know how to swim.  We train on the heavily trafficked Main River.  Also, you cannot be grossly overweight, as the boats do have weight limits.

Beginners need to participate in a beginners' crash course.  We offer them 4–6 times each year (during May and August) and teach you the most important techniques and skills you need to know.

What must I bring?

Good spirits, a willingness to work in a team, something to drink, and rowing attire (tight-fitting clothes so your clothing does not catch on anything in the boat).

Training format

We teach and train rowing technique, also how to move in the boat, rowing commands (e.g., on the way to the water), and building stamina.

Does it cost me any more than the basic FVV membership fee?

Yes.  Participation costs a total of 18 Euros monthly (double the current membership fee).  We are in the process of negotiating our contract for the coming season, so this price may change slightly.  If you commit yourself to a rowing season, then you can only terminate your FVV membership at the end of the rowing season at not at the end of a quarter.

Does the group also participate in tournaments and workshops?

Yes, we participate in rowing events and regattas.  There is also further training available, e.g., helm instruction and safety seminars.  Participation in these training seminars is strictly voluntary and they serve to promote one's own safety.
